When it comes to choosing a location for a beach holiday in Calabria, visitors will be spoilt for choice, thanks to the numerous seaside destinations in the region, all beautiful and with unique characteristics. Calabria has seven coastal areas, starting at the border with Basilicata and moving south along the Tyrrhenian coast and then going north, along the Ionian coast, until the border with Basilicata: Costa dei Cedri, Costa degli Dei, Costa Viola, Costa dei Gelsomini, Costa degli Aranci, Costa dei Saraceni and Costa degli Achei.

Travelling in the same direction, visitors will find the following main seaside destinations of the region: Praia a Mare, Scalea, Paola, Amantea, Tropea, Isola di Capo Rizzuto, Cirò Marina, Corigliano Calabro e Sibari, just to mention some. Tropea, however, deserves a special mention, as it is the most popular coastal town in Calabria, home to the world renowned red onions of Tropea.

However, the region also has three unspoiled national parks, with lush vegetation: Sila, Aspromonte and Pollino. This is also Calabria's mountain area, where the region's skiing resorts are located.
