Ligurian Riviera: discover the tourist area

Beaches, coves and seaside villages are the main tourist attractions for those who choose to spend their holidays in bungalows on the Ligurian Riviera, that is the coast of Liguria that extends for over 300 Km from the Italian border with France, in the west, to the Province of La Spezia, in the east. Wet by the Ligurian Sea, the Ligurian Riviera divides two further rivieras: the Riviera di Ponente to the west o Genoa, and the Riviera di Levante to the east of the provincial capital. The presence of campsites and holiday villages is very rich in both rivieras, often located close to the coast, although with very different characteristics among them.

Tourist resorts of the Ligurian Riviera

Long and narrow, Liguria is a region that is characterized by the coastal strip overlooking the Ligurian Sea and a relatively small hinterland, which is characterized by strong altitudes. Especially in the Riviera di Levante, it is not uncommon to find campsites and holiday villages with bungalows that offer both panoramic views and access to beach coves. We are in the province of La Spezia and the area of the Cinque Terre is the most evident example: the villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore stand out clinging to promontories overlooking the sea, in a fascinating and delicate balance that has earned these places the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the Cinque Terre, the Riviera di Levante offers other small villages of great beauty such as Tellaro, Lerici and Porto Venere, as well as tourist resorts of the likes of Camogli, Portofino, the Gulf of Tigullio.

The Riviera di Ponente is quite a different matter, where the sandy beaches make it easier to access the sea even for children and the elderly. In turn, divided into the Riviera dei Fiori and Riviera delle Palme, from west to east, the Riviera di Ponente includes tourist resorts very well known to campers, such as Varazze, Finale Ligure, Loano, Alassio, Andora, Diano Marina, Sanremo and Bordighera.

Pesto sauce and Ligurian focaccia

Like its capital Genoa, a port city with a strong and outspoken character, Liguria is a genuine land even in terms of flavour. When it comes to food and wine, in fact, the mind runs immediately to extra virgin olive oil and basil, two of the main ingredients of the famous Pesto alla Genovese sauce. The Ligurian focaccia is also famous, in all its variants ranging from the Recco to the Genoese focaccia. More generally, you just need to visit different restaurants and small shops to realize the incredible regional food and wine, also available for those who choose to spend their holidays in the bungalows of the Ligurian Riviera.
